Event date(s): Tuesday 5th April 2016  –  Thursday 7th April 2016

Location: Frascati, Italy

7th IICWG Data assimilation and PPP ice verification Workshop - ESA/ESRIN (Frascati, Italy), 5-7 April 2016

Call for Abstracts

The Organising Committee of the 7th International Ice Charting Working Group Workshop on Sea Ice Data Assimilation and Verification invites you to ESA ESRIN, in Frascati, Italy on the 5-7 April 2016.

This workshop builds on a series of successful workshops to advance international capabilities for automated sea ice analysis and prediction on timescales from hours to months. In light of the upcoming Year of Polar Prediction (YOPP) organised by the WWRP-PPP, a particular need has been identified regarding the development of more mature and meaningful methods for sea ice verification.

The focus of the workshop is to discuss cross-cutting issues in sea ice modelling and data assimilation and how deficiencies of current systems can be more efficiently diagnosed and addressed. General topics considered appropriate for this workshop include:

  • Sea ice observations and uncertainties
  • Sea ice data assimilation methods and results
  • Sea ice model parameterisation and coupling to ocean and atmosphere models
  • Verification approaches for sea-ice analyses and forecasts
  • Operational challenges and user needs

The workshop will be organised around keynote and contributed presentations with ample time for discussion. The number of participants is limited and all attendees are encouraged to make a contribution.

Presentation abstracts will be accepted until 15 December 2015 and participants will be notified of acceptance by 15 January 2016.
