October announcement: Confirmation of dates (published 5 October 2015)

GOVST-VI Meeting

Q Station, Sydney Harbour National Park, Australia

2-6 November 2015

Agenda:  First good draft of the GOVST-VI agenda is available for your information. We are working to refine the schedule in the next weeks. It would be very helpful if you could check the agenda and let us know if you have any questions.

Visa: Visiting Australia will require you to obtain a VISA (unless you already hold one or you have an Australian passport). To find out if and what type of VISA you require please visit the http://www.border.gov.au/Trav/Visa-1 (Department of Immigration and Border Protection Visa website) and complete the short questionnaire. You will then be able to find the visa you need.

Accommodation: From recent communications with our meeting venue it seems no longer possible to book accommodation at the Q Station. For alternative accommodation please try hotels in Manly (please see attached file), an area just north of the Sydney Harbour National Park (Q Station). You will be able to use public transport or taxis to get to the Q Station conference/meeting rooms. The 135 public bus operates between Warringah Mall Terminus, Balgowlah, Manly Wharf & Q Station (North Head). Bus timetables are available here.

Meeting organisation: This year we have left more time for scientific presentations/posters and discussions and hope that this will be welcomed by all. In order to prepare for this we need your input:

  • Task Team co-chairs: Please consider and provide one or two science questions that you wish to discuss with the GOVST at the meeting. You will have a 20 min to introduce the question/topic and to discuss it.
  • National group representatives: This year please prepare your “overview and progress of the large-scale system” you are representing on a poster, as we have taken out the national group oral presentations. In addition we also ask that you provide an update of the national report by the GOVST-VI meeting date.
  • All GOVST members: In addition to the discussion of science questions during the TT sessions, we are also planning to invite local presenters for presentation on the topic of (Western) Boundary Currents, as this is this year’s science theme for the meeting. These presenters will be identified and invited by the science sessions chairs Peter Oke and Gary Brassington. However, as we probably have a few more oral presentation slots we would also like to encourage GOVST members to consider to present on a slightly wider science topic (not necessarily boundary currents only) by submitting a science topic/title.

In my next email I will send you a short questionnaire through which you will be able to submit your TT science questions and proposals for an oral science presentation (on the boundary current topic or a wider science topic).

Invited speakers: We will invite a few non-GOVST speakers to the meeting and will contact these individually.

GOVST-VI Meeting

Q Station, Sydney Harbour National Park, Australia

2-6 November 2015

The next GOVST-VI meeting will be held in Sydney, Australia from the 2-6 November 2015. All GOVST members and GOV Patrons are cordially invited to attend and we hope to welcome you in Sydney in November.

The venue for the event will be the Q Station Sydney Harbour National Park (http://www.qstation.com.au/) which provides conference facilities, accommodation and restaurants all in one place. We will be able to take advantage of a special hotel room rate (more details on the accommodation page). It is highly recommended to book rooms at the Q Station as other hotels are further away and can be quite expensive.

As you may need to apply for a visa to travel to Australia we will prepare invitation letters if required. Please let us know if you require support with your visa.

More details to follow soon.
