Registration & accommodation

The GOVST-VI Annual Meeting is hosted by our Australian members from the Bureau of Meteorology, BoM and CSIRO.

Q Station Beach

The registration is now closed.

Please note that the deadline for booking  accommodation (using a special rate) is the 10 June 2015 (see further details below)!!

To arrange your participation in this event, please follow the instructions below:

  1. If you need an invitation letter for VISA purposes please contact the GOV project office.
  2. Please complete the online registration form (this is mandatory)
  3. Arrange your hotel accommodation at the Q Station, where we will also hold the meeting. We strongly encourage you to use the on-site hotel, as due to the location of our meeting venue a daily commute would take too long. It is important that we start on time in the morning as we have an end time each day that we need to adhere to. Ferry and bus services are not conveniently timetabled to get to the site for a 9am start. Taxi or car would be required and there is also time required to get from the gate to the venue. Most will find the onsite accom will work the best.

To book your room please follow the instructions below. Please note that the deadline for booking the hotel using the special rate is the 10 June 2015. Any unused rooms will be released after this date and are subject to availability.

For any questions please read through the details below or contact the project office.

Q Station

The  venue of the 6th GODAE OceanView Science Team meeting is the

Q Station
North Head, Manly
North Head Scenic Drive
Manly NSW 2095

The Q Station is located at the historic site of the former Quarantine Station, North Head, five minutes from Manly and about 30 minutes (by car) from the heart of Sydney.

Q Station’s stylish heritage accommodation is a far cry from the austere quarters that greeted the original internees in the 1800’s. Today the refurbished contemporary accommodation has been sensitively adapted from the Quarantine Stations original accommodation wings, fitted in contemporary style with the comforts of a modern hotel while protecting the heritage aspects of the colonial buildings.

Features include queen-sized beds, flat screen televisions, on-demand video, refrigerators, high speed Wi-Fi internet access and beautifully appointed bathrooms. All rooms feature ceiling fans and heating. Broad timber verandas provide outside seating, a peaceful place for guests to relax outdoors.

QStation room (deluxe)

Most rooms have ensuite bathrooms, however, our Heritage rooms have an external but private bathroom a few steps from the room. Bathrobes & slippers are provided for this room type.

To take advantage of the special room rates arranged for GOV, please make your hotel room booking directly through the hotel. The room-block bookings are available at two price levels. All room bookings include breakfast.

The Sydney Airport (Kingsford Smith) is located to the south-west of Sydney city centre and about 30-40 minutes drive away from the Q Station which is in Manly, a beach-side suburb of northern Sydney. It is 17 kilometres north-east of the Sydney central business district.

The Sydney Airport Transportation site provides information about how to get to/form Sydney airport and offers a number of options: taxis, shuttle bus/ shared bus, train/ferry or car hire.

A taxi will get you from the airport to the Q Station for about $100, but it can be more expensive depending on traffic. This is probably the best option if you are traveling in a small group (2-3 people).

Private Shuttle Bus companies (untested):

Manly Express

Northside Shuttle

Manly Airport Bus

Transfer (recommended for daytime arrivals 8am-1pm)

Start your jet lag recovery with a sea breeze on Sydney Harbour and the most pleasant way to get to Q Station.

1. Airlink(train) to Circular Quay Station, very frequent service (every 15 minutes on Sunday). It's easy to find being directly under the airport baggage area, ticketing at the gates - $17 (adult) http://www.sydneytrains.info/timetables/#landingPoint (T2 line). Travel time is 21 minute.

Airport Link (train) is a fast and convenient way to reach the centre of Sydney. Trains run approximately every 10 minutes and the journey to the city takes only 13 minutes. The international and domestic rail stations link directly to the City Circle line, which means most city destinations are within a short walk of stations. For a trip to Manly go to Platform 1. Catch the train to "Circular Quay" (18minutes).

2. Harbour hopper (Ferry) to Q Station - service every 30 minutes. http://www.sydneyharbourecohopper.com.au/time-table. Tickets can be purchased on board - $40 (adult). From the Circular Quay to Qstation is takes 39 minutes. The Q Station operates a shuttle from the ferry terminal to the hotel concierge desk. This can be pre-arranged.

Ferries from "Circular Quay" to Manly depart from Wharf No.3 (30 minutes) and after arrival at Manly Wharf it is another short trip by bus or taxi to the Q Station. The 135 public bus operates between Warringah Mall Terminus, Balgowlah, Manly Wharf & Q Station (North Head). Bus timetables are available here.

Note that an alternative public ferry operates more services throughout the day between Circular Quay and Manly. However, a transfer to the hotel by taxi or bus is required. http://www.railmaps.com.au/routedetails.php?RouteSelect=243 If you like a scenic trip to the Q Station and are fit enough after a long-haul flight, you can use train & ferry and bus from Manly Wharf.
