Venue - Puertos del Estado, Madrid, Spain

Puertos del Estado

The COSS-TT meeting 2018 will take place at Puertos del Estado in Madrid, Spain, which is located to the northeast of Madrid, near the international airport.

Puertos del Estado is a public business entity under the Ministry of Public Works of Spain, with responsibilities for the entire state-owned port system. It is in charge of the execution of the government port policies, and the coordination and efficiency control of the port system, which is composed of 28 port authorities administering 46 ports of general interest.

The PdE Physical Oceanography Division, by means of the own-managed operational monitoring and forecasting oceanography services, provides to the Spanish port system, to other institutions and to the society with met-ocean data essential to increase efficiency (reducing the costs and ensuring safety) in routine port operations as well as to support a sustained coastal and port management.

Madrid is the capital of Spain and the third largest city in Europe. It is best known for its great cultural and artistic heritage, a good example of which is the El Prado Museum. Madrid also boasts some of the liveliest nightlife in the world.

The climate of Madrid is continental; mainly dry and quite extreme at times. Spring and autumn are mostly mild and definitely the best times to visit, especially the months of April, May, June, September and October.

The culture of Madrid is largely influenced by its royal history, as the center of the Spanish Empire. The Royal Palace, big places and buildings used by the Spanish Monarchy, enormous cathedrals and churches are plentiful in Madrid, as well as medieval architecture, although nowadays Madrid is just as much a cosmopolitan city as Berlin or London, full of new architecture, lifestyle and culture.
