THIRD ANNOUNCEMENT

Extension of registration & submission deadlines

3rd COSS-TT International Coordination Workshop

Rincon Beach Resort, Puerto Rico

21-24 January 2014

Dear all,

We are very grateful to all those who already registered for the workshop and provided their contributions. To encourage more submissions of abstracts from registered and new participants we are extending the submission deadline to the 6 December 2013.

We will therefore also keep the "early bird" registration fee of $150 open until 6 December. Please note that registrations will continue to be available after that deadline, but the higher fee would apply. We encourage everyone to finalize payment by 6 December. Please go to https://ezpay.utdallas.edu/C20239_ustores/web/store_main.jsp?STOREID=184 to pay the fee.

We particularly like to encourage new participants to join us in Puerto Rico. Based on the list of registrations, we expect a very productive meeting that will include a broad range of presentations and allow the group to work toward important community outcomes, such as:

A - Develop a draft for a Strategic Science Plan for prediction/monitoring in Coastal and Shelf Seas

B - Engage more groups focused on applications of Coastal/Shelf prediction systems

C - Improve links with nearshore processes and with global prediction systems toward seamless prediction from the global, through the shelf and to the littoral scale

D - Approve the MoU toward broad dissemination for engagement and signing by international Institutes

E - Converge on 1 or more international Pilot Projects

We are looking forward to welcome you in Puerto Rico.

Many thanks to all attendees from many parts of the world for making the 2nd GODAE OceanView Coastal Ocean and Shelf Seas International Coordination Workshop in Lecce, Italy which was a big success. We hope to publish the workshop report soon.

The COSS Task Team (COSS-TT) and the broader COSS community continue to value the importance of an international forum to advance data assimilative modeling, integrated coastal observations, downscaling, prediction and applications. At the Lecce workshop we also made progress with the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to consolidate the international collaboration, pursue common projects and ensure the long lasting legacy of the group’s activities.

At the 3rd COSS-TT International Coordination Workshop which is planned to take place in Puerto Rica we expect to focus on further system updates, dedicated sessions on science and applications, continue the MoU discussion plus arrange a TT/Core Group meeting. We would very much like to invite you to this event (further details to follow with the second announcement due beginning of June).

Please SAVE THE DATE in your calendar and see some earlier workshop information below.

The workshop will be hosted by the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez (Department of Marine Sciences, http://www.uprm.edu/cima/) , and the CariCOOS (Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System, http://www.caricoos.org/).
