The Data Assimilation-Task Team will foster the development and evaluation of data assimilation systems relevant to GOV to support the coordination of the fundamental and challenging issues in the ocean forecasting process, of which data assimilation is a significant part.


Possible meeting topics:

The follwoing topics could form the basis for the meeting sessions (preliminary list):

  • Recent developments in global and regional ocean data assimilation systems
  • Hybrid variational/ensemble data assimilation
  • Observation impact and sensitivity
  • Model error and bias
  • Error covariance modelling
  • Coupled data assimilation
  • Impact of physical data assimilation on unassimilated variables/processes, e.g. vertical velocities., vertical mixing
  • Assimilation of new/novel observation types
  • DA-TT specific issues including: work plan updates; demonstrations of benefit from DA-TT work to GOV (including its contributing national systems)



  • DA-TT members or substitutes
  • Representatives fromt the GODAE OceanView Science Team and the GOV Patrons' Group
  • Ocean DA experts not directly involved in GOV are also invited to attend
